Straight off the press comes the exciting news of Shrewsbury Folk Festival’s last roll call of artists for 2026. We leave you to savour their deathless prose.
“A ground-breaking, cutting edge bassist, singer and songwriter leading her Utonga band, Edith WeUtonga -see photo above -whose latest album ‘Varipasi’ has been shortlisted for 2025 Folk Album of the Year Award. Playing an authentically Zimbabwean sound laced with Jiti, Chimurenga and Shona folk, she experiments with some of her favourite world music flavours such as rhumba, reggae Calypso and jazz.
Multi-instrumentalist Malin Lewis was one of the standout artists of our Showcase Scotland partnership last year so a return invite was a must! An innovator and award winner, they meld Scottish West coast tradition with a newly invented, self-made bagpipe alongside stars Sally Simpson (fiddle) and Jenn Butterworth (guitar). Hair tingling, philosophical and dance inducing melodies inspired by European folk traditions, queerness and the universe.
Adriano Adewale and Friends: Rooted and Rising is an exciting new collaboration of acclaimed folk and world musicians led by composer and percussionist Adriano Adewale. Inspired by the synergies between nature, folklore and folk music, it will unite musical heritage from England, Scotland, Brazil, Haiti, Columbia, the US and the Punjab. Adriano will be joined by musical friends including Nancy Kerr, Kuljit Bhamra and Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne for this unique musical show, which has been commissioned by the English Folk Dance and Song Society and supported by Folk by the Oak and the Cockayne Foundation with the Reed Foundation.
Known for her clear, haunting voice and delicately fingerpicked guitar style, festival first timer Katherine Priddy draws on traditional British folk while writing deeply personal songs, creating music that feels timeless and intimate. Her performances are marked by emotional honesty, quiet power, and a gift for storytelling rooted in landscape, memory, and human connection, with a reverence for tradition.
And, closing the Pengwern stage on Monday, Cut Capers will leave you partying until the very last second! The explosive nine-piece from Bristol are known for their legendary high-energy shows and have cultivated a killer reputation for their vibrant and infectious performances, guaranteed to get any crowd on their feet.
