Tarren (n.) Small Hill [Old English]
Well now you know ?! Don’t worry there won’t be a written test at the end of this post, but I have a feeling it is not going to be a word you forget, after you’ve checked out what this new collaboration has to offer.
Tarren is made up of Bristol-based artists Sid Goldsmith (Jimmy Aldridge & Sid Goldsmith, Awake Arise), Alex Garden (The Drystones, Harriet Riley & Alex Garden) and Danny Pedler (Pedler // Russell). They combine cittern and concertina, fiddle, and accordion to create their music.
The first of their three videos, is of “An old song that always seems to be relevant. Many artists have a had their go at editing this song to call out the swindlers of the day and we suspect we’ll be generating endless verses as we go on playing this one”
Here it is ..
These musicians are clearly ambassadors for high quality, English Folk music, incorporating minimalist musical forms into traditionally inspired material. They are producing music that is going to draw the listener in, it certainly did me after it first popped up on my social media feed !?
Ready for video number two ?
This new trio is rooted in traditional English music, drawing on elements of minimalism and modern classical techniques. whilst weaving intricate themes throughout tunes and songs.
Sid told me “We’ve amassed a lot of material together in a very short time and are aiming to record our first album in the Autumn. We’re also looking forwards to taking it all on tour when we’re able”
At the time of composing this I had been privy to video number three, which I can assure you is worth checking out !!
