Captivating songwriting and fiery tunes that combine mandolin, fiddle, guitar and banjo with powerful three part harmonies. The unmistakable sound of The Shackleton Trio brings to life the stories of their native East Anglia, and beyond.
September 2024 sees the band touring a brand new album, as they look ahead to celebrating their 10 year anniversary in 2025. The trio features Georgia Shackleton (fiddle, vocals), Aaren Bennett (guitar) and Nic Zuppardi (mandolin and banjo). Collectively the band draw influence from British, American and Scandinavian folk traditions, whilst Georgia’s flair for sourcing largely unsung material from East Anglia keeps the band firmly rooted in their local tradition.
Almost a decade performing together has seen the band played on BBC Radio 2, Radio 3 and Radio 4, BBC 6 Music, RTE 1, BBC Countryfile, press coverage gleaming ★★★★★ reviews, an appearance on Cambridge Folk Festival’s prestigious main stage, a host of UK and European festivals and international tours, and many miles in the Mondeo.
Their self titled latest album is imminent and the band have today released a video to accompany the release of the first single from the album, Two Hundred Days, showcasing Georgia’s trademark songwriting style It describes the celebration of ‘Bobbie, the Wonderdog’ who in 1924, who after being lost, returned on the doorstep of his owners restaurant after a six month, 3000 mile journey cross-country from Indiana to Oregon. He shot to fame after his incredible journey, and presented with medals, keys to cities, and received 40,000 visitors as a guest of
honour at The Portland Home Show. He also went on to appear as himself in the silent film ‘The Call of the West’.
Their distinctive sound is showcased on this latest release, as they look forward to celebrating 10 years as a band next year . In anticipation of this landmark, ‘The Shackleton Trio’ has a retrospective element, capturing the evolution of some old favourites. These sit alongside a compelling collection of brand new songs and tunes which offer a peek at a new wave of material on the way in 2025.
The album was recorded live, with the band choosing the best of 3 takes of each track. The recording was engineered, mixed and produced by Aaren Bennett.
This is a band that clearly enjoys playing together, and are not to be missed.
Original linocut artwork from Nic Zuppardi, beautifully depicts the characters from the songs and tunes, and can best be admired on the very limited edition run of signed Vinyl.
