The Folk Detectives to Wreak Havoc at Summer Festivals Again!

May 17, 2024

The Folk Detectives are Matthew Crampton and Paul Hutchinson. Their mission is ‘to uphold the lore – the Folklore.’ They challenge the ‘so-called experts’ at Cecil Sharp House with a podcast filled with outlandish theories. But their pilot recording for that podcast keeps failing.

Among the deadpan nonsense, terrible jokes and musical pastiches, there are celebrity guests (who never turn up), spoof ads for sponsors, and other classic elements of radio comedy.

Paul Hutchinson has sent a warning to all festival attendees this year that this comedic duo will be amongst the artists on the line up, he says:

May I warn you about a new ‘comedy’ duo I’m involved with – The Folk Detectives. My accomplice Matthew Crampton and I launched this venture last summer at Sidmouth and Folk East festivals. It proved disturbingly popular. Indeed we’ve been asked to bring our musical mayhem to various festivals and venues this summer.

On Wednesday 29th May we make our London debut at The Water Rats in Kings Cross. It should be a wild night.

Here is a full gig rundown (details at www.thefolkdetectives.com).

27th May Chippenham Folk Festival
29th May London Water Rats
6th August Sidmouth Folk Festival
14th August Broadstairs Folk Festival
18th August Folk East
30th August Moseley Folk & Arts Festival

More autumn dates are to follow. We’d love to see you at one of these gigs, though be warned – the show is rather silly!

Best wishes, Paul

You have been suitably warned ?!
