The hotly anticipated single sees the folk supergroup and friends reunite to celebrate our return to normality with an unforgettable up-tempo track.
2021, a year that will now be remembered as ‘The Best One Yet’ thanks to the unforgettable new single from Show of Hands and The Firebrand Band.
Steve Knightley, Phil Beer, Miranda Sykes and Cormac Byrne have reunited as Show of Hands to release a post-lockdown anthem that celebrates everything we love and have missed about the joy of summer festivals. They are joined by Track Dogs, Edgelarks and Banter for the up-tempo track, which is set to become the anthem of the year.
The rousing, festival song features an unforgettable melody and heart-warming lyrics that will resonate with all who have found the last year challenging, to say the least. A song to reflect and remember the good times lost – and the good times to come. It is also hugely poignant for the bands that feature, who are themselves celebrating the music industry coming back to life.
Songwriter and lead singer of Show of Hands, Steve Knightley, says:
“‘The Best One Yet’ almost wrote itself. The track really denotes the celebration of returning to normality – returning to the green fields of festivals throughout the land.
“I wanted something that would really capture the moment, marking the end of this difficult period. It was a no-brainer to get the whole agency together as we’ve all been in the same position – cancelled tours and restricted to online performances. The online stuff has been good and kept us going, but as performers we have that need for interaction. The need to be with our community again.
“Everyone has added a unique contribution and the result is an up-tempo, feel-good track that celebrates our return to singing and dancing in the open air… the green fields.”
The single is accompanied by a rocky, dance-inducing music video, recorded and produced by Jolyon Holroyd. The visual masterpiece features the families of the bandmates enjoying the great outdoors once again, including two babies who were born during lockdown. Jolyon also features in the film, making a cameo on the drums.
It’s a story of community, of resilience and of coming together – not just for Show of Hands, Track Dogs, Edgelarks and Banter – but for all music fans across the UK. ‘The Best One Yet’ is a post-lockdown anthem that celebrates and resurrects the joy of festivals after what has been a difficult year. With its wholesome lyrics about the great outdoors and the infectious atmosphere of a summer gig, and an unforgettable up-tempo melody, the bands are hoping the track will storm the mainstream charts thanks to an epic campaign entitled #folkupthecharts.
Songwriter and Show of Hands lead singer Steve Knightley says: “This song marks the end of a difficult period for all of us. It doesn’t matter what your taste in music is or what walk of life you’re from. This is about community. Family. Getting back out there and having fun. ’The Best One Yet’ captures the mood of the nation – we’re back and we’re ready to have fun.”
Show of Hands will return to the stages of the UK – for their first tour in two years – by popular demand this autumn on their ‘The Best One Yet’ Tour.
