Richard Thompson ‘Historic Classic Concert Live In Nottingham 1986’ on CD for First Time

Dec 1, 2023

‘Historic Classic Concert Live In Nottingham 1986‘ from Richard Thompson is issued for the first time ever on 2CD through Store For Music next January.   This is a concert (originally recorded for radio) that has been hidden in the archives for all these years; an historic classic live performance, now to be enjoyed by all Richard Thompson fans around the world.

Having made his name with Fairport Convention, which he co-founded in 1967, Richard Thompson left in 1971 and has gone on to enjoy a stellar solo career ever since encompassing 25 full studio albums. He has also always been a live performer par excellence and this show from 1986 captures him on sparkling form.

Named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the Top 20 Guitarists of All Time, Richard Thompson is also one of the world’s most critically acclaimed and prolific songwriters. He has received Lifetime Achievement Awards for Songwriting on both sides of the Atlantic – from the Americana Music Association in Nashville to Britain’s BBC Awards and the prestigious Ivor Novello. In 2011, Thompson was the recipient of the OBE (Order of the British Empire) personally bestowed upon him by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. Most recently, the Americana Music Honors & Awards nominated him for “Artist of the Year”.

The full band Line Up for the show features: Richard Thompson – Guitar/Vocal; Christine Collister – Vocals/Acoustic Guitar; Gerry Conway – Drums; Clive Gregson – Guitar /Vocal; Rory McFarlane – Bass.

Richard Thompson is the kind of performer who has nothing left to prove and yet this double album underlines just what it is that makes him special and has kept him at the top of the game for over 50 years. ‘Historic Classic Concert Live In Nottingham 1986’ is unmissable.
