Michell, Pfeiffer & Kulesh Present Their Full-Length Debut Album: Flowers

May 3, 2024

Michell, Pfeiffer & Kulesh* are an all-female close harmony folk trio that brings together the exciting talents and exquisite voices of award-winning singers and songwriters Odette Michell, Karen Pfeiffer and Daria Kulesh.

Their stunning three-part vocal harmonies bring to life spellbinding folk tales, expertly woven together with a vibrant international twist – a project that would never transpired had it not been for the lockdowns, when three of the busiest female performers on the folk scene found themselves somewhat less occupied than before. Introducing Stage winners at The Great British Folk Festival 2023 by public vote, they wow their audiences with a deeply moving, exciting and unique live show. Theirs is a unique cross-cultural, multi-lingual, multi-instrumental collaboration, turning familiar folk tunes into something fresh and powerful.

These three unique female voices from three different cultures rise in sublime harmony, telling powerful stories that have moved people across borders, languages and times. Exquisite, yet far from purely decorative, this rich, multilingual record evokes images of flowers placed in rifle barrels; it tells stories of women who certainly aren’t blushing roses to be picked or discarded at will. Featuring a strong theme of female empowerment and a heartfelt plea for peace, Flowers is truly an album for our times, yet is also rooted in timeless tradition.

Produced, mixed and mastered by Jason Emberton, the album features the impressive instrumental talents of Jason Emberton (drums, strings, keyboards), Katrina Davies (violin), Phil Beer (violin on The Cossack’s Bride), Jonny Dyer (guitar on May Colven) and Marina Osman (piano on Those Were the Days).

Odette Michell, Karen Pfeiffer and Daria Kulesh themselves contribute not only their voices and stunning arrangements but also their multi-instrumental skills; including bouzouki, guitar, accordion, bodhran, shruti box, percussion and woodwind (Irish flute and recorders).

The album will be launched on Sunday 9th June, 2024 at The Riverhouse Barn Arts Centre in Walton-on-Thames, with a tour of UK venues and festivals to follow. The official music video accompanying the title track and lead single Flowers  will be released on the same day – information here : thelittleboxoffice.com/riverhouse/event
