Martin Carthy Album Shortlisted for Mercury Prize

Sep 11, 2025

If any of you were travelling back from Cambridge yesterday and heard a loud squeal coming from a car travelling on the A14,  I am afraid it was me,  as I was listening to the announcement that Martin Carthy’s ‘Transform Me Then Into A Fish” is on the shortlist for the Mercury Prize 2025!

Reviewed here by our very own Simon Jones back in April  https://spiralearth.co.uk/transform-me-then-into-a-fish-martin-carthy/

SPIRAL EARTH

“‘Transform Me Then Into A Fish,’ completes and compliments the circle of Martin Carthy’s remarkable career. A pause rather than a full stop then. He tours still and shows no sign of allowing advancing years of to slow him down. Long may it be so”

We would like to offer Mr Carthy our sincere congratulations and apologise to anyone travelling on the A14 towards Newmarket yesterday,  who might have believed something untoward was happening to me, as I screeched loudly at the radio in the passenger seat of the car!

Martin Carthy to Release New Album ‘Transform Me Then Into A Fish’

Martin will be performing LIVE at Newcastle Utilita Arena on the awards show on 16th October, we’ll be rooting for him!
