Despite all the odds, predictions of doom and gloom on the TV and in the papers, pandemic, lock down restricted movement, closing of venues, wearing of masks and face visors there are still pockets of hope and light to be had in strange and difficult times. One such beacon is Up In Arms, certainly one of the country’s top folk/roots/Americana live organisations, who have flown in the face of all problems holding concerts – correctly socially distanced, following the rules scrupulously. They even manged to get shows across a variety of venues in between August and Mid October!!!
Craig Pickering and his team have spent half the year re-organising postponed dates and inserting new ones. So much so that barring further Government action they’ve just published a mouth-watering list of shows they aim to stage well into 2021. Showing the same open minded philosophy which’s been their watchword since the club began three decades ago, there’s folk, folk rock, country, experimental, singer songwriter and naturally a healthy chunk of Americana.
“We found people will travel if you put on variety and quality with fair prices,” explained Craig, who took over running the club from founder Eric Cox eight years ago, “Before we wind up an extremely difficult year we felt it important to get a gig list out there, to tell people we’re still putting concerts on and encourage them to come along.”
