Brothers Osborne have announced a 10th anniversary edition of their breakthrough album Pawn Shop, scheduled for release on 13 February via MCA Nashville. Originally issued in 2016, Pawn Shop marked the duo’s major-label debut and played a central role in establishing their profile within contemporary country music.
Upon its original release, the album drew attention for its blend of Southern rock dynamics, country songwriting traditions, and blues-influenced guitar work. Rolling Stone described it at the time as a “guaranteed show-stopper,” noting John Osborne’s improvisational lead guitar style as a defining feature. The record signalled a shift away from some of the prevailing production trends in mainstream country during the mid-2010s, favouring live-band energy and instrumental interplay.
Pawn Shop produced several singles that became central to the duo’s early catalogue, including “Stay A Little Longer,” “21 Summer,” “Rum,” “It Ain’t My Fault,” and the title track. “Stay A Little Longer” reached No. 1 on the US country airplay chart and received a nomination for Best Country Duo/Group Performance at the Grammy Awards. “It Ain’t My Fault” also reached the Top 10 and earned a nomination in the same category. The album’s commercial and critical performance established Brothers Osborne as one of the more prominent acts to emerge from Nashville during that period.
The forthcoming anniversary edition expands on the original release with additional material from the same era. A previously unreleased track, “Pins and Needles,” will be included alongside the remastered album. In advance of the full release, the duo have issued “Love The Lonely Out Of You (Live Pinebox Version),” recorded at John Osborne’s Pinebox studio. Presented as a single-take performance, the recording strips back the arrangement and foregrounds the vocal harmonies and songwriting structure that characterised much of the original album.
The 10-year edition will also be available on vinyl, accompanied by three limited 7-inch pressings. Each pairs newly released recordings, demos, or live versions connected to the Pawn Shop sessions. One edition features “Arms of Fire” and the Pinebox version of “Love The Lonely Out Of You.” Another pairs “Pins and Needles” with a demo of “Stay A Little Longer,” while a third includes “Shoot From The Hip” alongside a demo recording of “21 Summer.” An international single LP configuration will compile all six of these additional tracks into one release.
Critical response to Pawn Shop at the time of its debut reflected its emphasis on musicianship and songwriting craft. Entertainment Weekly described the record as driven by “ferocious guitars” and “stomping drum lines,” while the Dallas Observer highlighted its depiction of working-class themes and small-town life. The album was frequently cited as part of a broader movement within country music that sought to integrate roots-rock influences and more traditional instrumentation into mainstream formats.
Over the decade since its release, Brothers Osborne have accumulated 13 Grammy nominations, winning Best Country Duo/Group Performance in 2022 for “Younger Me.” They have also received multiple honours from the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music, and their catalogue has surpassed three billion global streams. Despite subsequent releases and touring milestones, Pawn Shop is widely regarded as the project that defined their early identity and set the trajectory for their career.
The anniversary edition positions the album within a longer arc, revisiting material that introduced Brothers Osborne’s approach to genre and performance. A decade on, Pawn Shop remains a reference point both within the duo’s catalogue and within discussions about the direction of country music during the late 2010s.
